Old Orchard Blossoms
ONE OF NORTH TORONTO'S GRANDMOTHERS TO GRANDMOTHERS GROUPS
There are a number of ways you can donate directly to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Every donation helps organizations in Africa who support grandmothers and the children in their care. .
The Old Orchard Blossoms would like to thank Katie Hutchinson of JaneHues Consulting and Chris Caswell of Chris Caswell Design for their help in designing and setting up our website, JaneHues Consulting for designing our business cards and Dwayne Soverall of Omega Communications for printing them for us, Bob Pearson for designing our banner and St Timothy’s Church, North Toronto for providing us with a place to meet, and so much more. We are blessed to have such support!
Inspired by the amazing African grandmothers at the Grandmothers Gathering in Toronto, in 2006, a handful of women at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church decided to support the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) and its Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign (G2G). Our mandate is to raise awareness of the grandmothers supportive role in the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa and to raise funds to assist grassroots projects run by and for grandmothers supporting their grandchildren and other orphans created by this pandemic. These amazing African grandmothers are central to the life of their communities and to a whole generation of children.
Since 2006, our numbers have grown to 20 members, and we have expanded to include women from the community. To date, we have raised over $175,000 - our contribution to the more than $25 million raised for the Grandmothers Campaign by 240 grandmothers groups Canada-wide. This money has been raised through a variety of projects – concerts, pub nights, wine tasting, afternoon teas, craft sales, penny collections, sales of greeting cards, quilts, jewelry books and milkweed plants, and by participating each year in the national fundraising walk Stride to Turn the Tide.
